摘要
基督教自形成以来，便一贯反对各种野蛮、落后、愚昧的风俗习惯，诸如溺婴弃婴，角斗，自杀，乱交，同性恋，鸡奸，童婚，多妻制，寡妇殉葬，妇女缠脚，奴隶制，等等。基督教又提倡博爱、慈善、怜悯，推崇艺术。基督教为人类文明和社会进步做出了积极的贡献，同时也使自身逐步发展为世界上势力影响最大和最为文明的宗教。施密特的《受其影响：基督教如何改造了文明》一书对此做了全面、系统、深入、集中的论述，成为集大成的著作。
