Christian Women's Movement Leader in the United States and Her Work with Chinese Women During Wartime

Abstract

During the War of Resistance, Soong Mei-ling connected with and mobilized Christian women leaders to engage in wartime women's mobilization and various wartime women's initiatives. Zhang Aizhen, Chen Jiyi, Wang Shijing, Wang Shixiu, Wu Yifang, Liu Wangliming, Deng Yuzhi, Niu Minhua, Hao Yingqing, Wang Jiyu, and others were all rallied by Soong under the banner of Christian service, devoutly and steadfastly carrying out wartime mobilization and various wartime women's initiatives. This article focuses on Christian women who had studied in the United States and their wartime women's work during the War of Resistance. During this period, these Christian women, educated in America, actively contributed to education, women's services, mobilization, and various women's initiatives, guided by the Christian values of love, sacrifice, and service. Most of these female Christian leaders in the women's movement, who had studied in the United States, were trained and influenced by Western education. They possessed strong writing skills, a devout spirit of service, and strong organizational abilities. On the one hand, they actively engaged in Christian church service work; on the other hand, concerned about the peril facing the nation, they responded to the call of Madame Chiang Kai-shek, Soong Mei-ling, and engaged in women's mobilization and propaganda during the War of Resistance, fulfilling their responsibility for the victory of the War of Resistance.
