Aims and Scope: JSRH is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed academic journal which aims to provide an academic platform for the study of religion and history, to promote interdisciplinary research on religion and history through the publication of high-quality academic research papers, and to promote the theoretical innovation and development of the study of religion, the historical study of religion, the sociology of religion, the anthropology of religion, the economics of religion, the ethics of religion, and other related researches on the basis of synthesizing the world's as well as China's religious materials and fields, so as to provide a theoretical foundation for the enhancement of research in the humanities and social sciences and for responding to the real issues.
The journal welcomes academic papers related to religion, especially those that synthesize and apply humanities and social sciences methods to interdisciplinary research on religion and history. JSRH focuses on providing a platform for young scholars (including graduate students) to publish their work. We warmly welcome young scholars from different disciplines, fields, and backgrounds to contribute their outstanding research on interdisciplinary studies of religion and history; the word count is not limited.

Peer Review Process: All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous double-blind peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by at least two anonymous referees.

Publication Frequency: JSRH is published two times a year, in June and December of each year.
Article Processing Charges：JSRH does not charge authors or any third party for publication. Both submission and processing of manuscripts, and publication of articles are free of charge. There are no fees for publishing materials. There are no: "article processing charges" (APCs), "article submission charges", "membership fees" or "language editing fees". We do not charge authors for having colour photos or extra pages in their articles. There are no hidden costs whatsoever.
JSRH is an Open Access and all articles are published under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0.
New Online Publishing Process:
1. Upon receipt of a submission, it is initially reviewed by the editorial board; after passing, it is anonymously reviewed by two peer scholars;
2、After passing, the article is published on the website together with the review comments;
3、After the editorial board receives the submitted article, it will be reviewed instantly and published quickly;
4、After the article is published, if the author needs to modify the article, he/she can submit a revised version;
5、The full version of the catalog is published in June and December every year;
6. Ensure that the time between the receipt of the submitted article and its publication does not exceed 1 month to ensure timeliness.
The purpose of the above new publishing methods is to ensure rapid publication of academic papers, reduce lag, and encourage open discussion and revision, mainly for the following academic status quo: (1) the external review time of academic articles is too long, and the authors do not receive the review comments; (2) the academic journals have limited space, the publication cycle is long, and the queuing time of articles is too long; (3) the published articles cannot be revised, and there is no corresponding academic discussion; (4) Most academic journals are paper-based and not publicly accessible.
We hope that this new publishing method can contribute to changing the current status quo of academic publishing and promoting the healthy development of academic research.
Journal History:
2013: The print edition of Religion and History (Zongjiao yu lishi /宗教与历史) was launched, adopting a book-as-journal model, published by Shanghai University Press, with Professor Tao Feiya as the editor-in-chief, and each issue featuring a different scholar as the executive editor;
2013: The first volume of Religion and History was published, with Dr. Xiao Qinghe as the executive editor;
2018: The eighth volume of Religion and History was published by Social Sciences Academic Press;
2020: The thirteenth volume of Religion and History was published;
2020–2025: Publication of the print edition of Religion and History slowed down;
2025: A new English edition, JSRH, was registered with an ISSN, with a restructured editorial team, and the first issue of JSRH was published online.
